Cardiac Science Powerheart G5 AED
You must have all heard of Sudden Cardiac Arrests (SCA) and heart attacks known medically as a Myocardial Infarction (MI). This is where the heart stops pumping effectively. As a result, oxygenated blood does not reach vital organs resulting in death. What you may not know is that without instant defibrillation and active cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) your chance of survival decreases approximately 10% for every minute that passes and after 4 minutes permanent brain damage may occur.
You may be wondering what CPR does. The pressure applied to the chest provides pressure on the heart and lungs, which helps pump blood around the body to those vital organs. So that keeps the person alive, what’s next? The defibrillator provides a high power electrical shock to the heart. This shock stops the heart to get it back in a regular rhythm. This is known as defibrillation.
Without a defibrillator you cannot provide the vital shock to put the heart back into the correct rhythm to save a life. This is why it’s vital that public places are equipped with the life-saving equipment required.
When purchasing a life-saving defibrillator, there are various factors that you need to consider before you make the investment. You need to consider where your defibrillator will be kept. Indoors or outdoors? Is your environment in a high or low risk category?
Different brands of defibrillators vary in aspects that may be critical to your environment. Some defibrillators have the ability to record ECGs, others have an automatic or manual option to shock a patient, which can be tailored to individuals that are more clinically experienced.
Taking everything into consideration we are now going to talk about one of our newest devices the Cardiac Science Powerheart G5.
Cardiac Science has designed a defibrillator that is simplistic, sleek and recognisable thanks to it’s bright orange colouring. The Powerheart G5 has a robust case with a rubber handle to help keep a grip whilst on the move. As a result, you are able to take the defibrillator to the patient easily.
To operate the device Cardiac Science have incorporated a hassle-free design which turns the device on as soon as the lid is opened. This helps speed up delivery of a shock for both the trained and untrained individual providing lifesaving intervention. Voice prompts guide the user every step of the way, allowing less confident rescuers to be reassured they are doing everything correctly and confidently.
The Powerheart G5 flaunts an impressive IP55 rating, which is the highest available on the market. This means the unit is fully protected against dust and water, making it suitable for a vast array of working and public environments. Cardiac Science is so sure their product will work in any extreme conditions they have even had the military test it to ensure it can function in harsh outdoor conditions.
The G5 incorporates an internal memory that can hold up to 90 minutes of ECG and CPR data, which can be downloaded by simply using a memory card. This is a feature that can be extremely helpful for medical professionals in determining treatment post cardiac arrest.
Cardiac Science is well routed within the defibrillator market and have designed the G5 in both semi-automatic and fully automatic configuration. The fully automatic G5 will deliver the shock to the patient without any intervention from the user, whereas the semi-automatic G5 require the user to press a button to deliver the shock required.
Cardiac Science have incorporated biphasic technology in their G5 defibrillator. This means that the defibrillator will send a lower powered shock through the heart twice. This increases the chance of survival, in addition to saving device energy; enabling the user to provide more shocks.
So after all of that, is this device suitable for you? The Powerheart G5 has become popular for schools, shopping centres, factories, workshops, train stations, airports and a variety of other industries.
